Welcome to The Belvedere, which is
Italian for "beautiful view!" Built in 1870, this Italianate and
bracketed style villa is one of many grand, historic Cape May "summer
cottages" built by renowned architect Stephen Decatur Button. One look
out the windows of the cupola atop the building and you'll know why it's
called The Belvedere! The building is on a shady, tree-lined street in
Cape May's primary historic district. |
|
Our beautifully kept condo is a large two bedroom,
two-bath unit that encompasses the entire third floor of the building.
From the cupola, there are great views of the beach, the Cape May Point
lighthouse, and the rest of Cape May in all directions. There's no
better place for morning coffee or a bottle of wine to watch the sunset
behind the lighthouse. (We're unaware of any other rental in Cape May
that provides private access to a cupola.)
Notice all the windows, 17 in all, to capture the morning sun and the
great sea breezes in "cool, cool Cape May." There is central air
conditioning for those slightly warmer days. This smoke-free, pet-free
condo is fully carpeted; the bathrooms and kitchen are tiled.
The Belvedere is one block from the beach, the newly renovated
Congress Hall, and the historic Washington Street Mall. You are within
walking distance of nearly all the best Cape May has to offer. If you
have bicycles, or rent them in Cape May, we have a bike rack.
Your rental includes off-street parking, a coin-operated washer/dryer
in the building, an outdoor clothesline and access to two outdoor
showers to wash off the sand and salt. |
|
At right is the living room. Please note, there's no
wicker furniture here. The living room is designed for total comfort and
relaxation. It is luxuriously furnished with a leather couch, two
matched, overstuffed "cuddle chairs" with pillows and an ottoman, and a
third, upholstered chair. There is a telephone with answering machine,
color TV/VCR/DVD with cable, and an AM/FM stereo system with CD player.
You can see and hear the ocean from here too! |
 |
 |
The fully equipped kitchen includes all dishes, glasses,
flatware, utensils, pots and pans, (we mean it!) refrigerator with
icemaker, electric stove, microwave, dishwasher, disposal, coffee maker
and toaster. There are four barstools at the counter and the dining
table is just off the kitchen. |
|
The master bedroom is furnished with a queen-sized bed
on an antique, shaker-style frame. Both dressers are antique oak with
unique brass pulls. The connecting master bathroom includes a tub and
shower. All bed linens are provided. |
 |
 |
The second bedroom is quite large and includes a
king-sized bed on antique "Jenny Lind" frames that easily convert into
oversized twin beds. There is an antique, marble topped dresser with
mirror, (check out the unique pulls!) and a large closet. Across the
hall is the second bathroom with shower and tub.
Open the windows and you hear the ocean! |
|
From the cupola, you can hear and see the waves
crashing. Open these four windows and you capture the best breezes! From
this special spot, sit and watch the boats go by and watch stunning
sunsets behind the lighthouse. |
